The 2024 General Assembly session started on January 10 and the VHA team has been hard at work since then attending committee hearings and meeting with legislators from both chambers to discuss our agenda.

VHA’s priority bills are making progress:
The first bill was introduced by Delegate Coyner (HB 1446) and is related to ensuring the accurate tax assessment of affordable housing properties. HB 1446 has been assigned to the House Finance Committee and was heard in Subcommittee #2 on Tuesday, January 30. After debate, the bill was passed by for the week in order to clarify some questions that were brought up during the hearing. HB 1446 will be back on the agenda for consideration at the next subcommittee meeting. Thank you to everyone who answered our Call to Action alert on this bill! The second bill was introduced by Delegate Bennett-Parker (HB 1398) and enables localities to establish Right of First Refusal (ROFR) programs to preserve dedicated affordable housing. HB 1398 has been referred to the House General Laws committee and will likely be heard on Thursday, February 1.
