This week marks the annual Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, a time when people from around the country come together to draw attention to the issues of housing instability and food insecurity. In addition, this week Congress must act on the federal budget to keep the government open and funded past Nov. 17. As the House and Senate look to strike a deal that avoids a government shutdown, they must remember those of us who face the traumas of homelessness and hunger.
