Fairfax County Adopted New Guidelines to Preserve Affordable Housing

In a bid to safeguard affordable housing, Fairfax County’s Board of Supervisors adopted new guidelines to address the loss of affordable housing during residential redevelopment. These guidelines aim to replace existing affordable housing units that might be displaced by redevelopment projects on a one-for-one basis. To accomplish this, the guidelines provide some flexibility to allow for additional density in order to meet policy objectives, and even off-site solutions–provided they remain within a mile of the subject site.
