The 2024 Housing Leadership Institute (HLI), hosted by Virginia Housing Alliance, brought together 15 emerging leaders from across the Commonwealth for a transformative year of leadership development, community building, and systems thinking. Designed to deepen participants’ confidence, expand their networks, and strengthen housing equity leadership across Virginia, the program delivered a powerful mix of in-person retreats, virtual sessions, coaching, and applied learning.
We are incredibly grateful to our many partners who made our first year a success, including the facilitators, coaches and guest speakers who offered invaluable wisdom to our participants; the many vendors whose hospitality always created a welcome space for our group to grow and learn; and our fiscal sponsors whose support continues to make this program possible–namely Atlantic Union Bank, the Blocker Foundation, and Weissberg Foundation.

About the Housing Leadership Institute
The Housing Leadership Institute (HLI) is a 10-month intensive and targeted program created and implemented by the Virginia Housing Alliance. The Alliance and its partners designed the program to leverage training, coaching, and peer support. Each year we help 15 mid-career housing professionals foster and grow leadership skills. Through the program, participants create a career development plan to catalyze their leadership trajectory.
The program consists of 7 virtual sessions, 3 in-person retreats across the Commonwealth, 5 one-on-one coaching sessions, readings and reflections to supplement each session, and additional networking and professional development opportunities.
