VHA is excited to introduce our September Member Spotlight, Rebuilding Together Richmond.
Rebuilding Together Richmond (RT RVA) is on a mission to repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives across Greater Richmond, Virginia. Through essential home repairs and accessibility modifications, RT RVA ensures that neighbors — especially older adults and people with disabilities — can remain safely in the homes they love.
From contractor-led upgrades like roofing, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work, to volunteer-powered projects that bring the community together, RT RVA is preserving housing as a generational asset. One recent project provided Ms. Ethel, age 87, with critical home improvements, including a new HVAC system and safety modifications — allowing her to continue living independently. “Having these repairs done makes it possible for my mom to stay in her home safely. It’s a huge relief for our family,” her son shared.
This fall, RT RVA is preparing for its Fall Fix-Up Days of Service—an annual event that mobilizes volunteer teams from churches, corporations, and civic groups to complete repairs and enhancement projects in South Chesterfield, Petersburg, and Hopewell. These events not only improve individual homes, but also foster community connections and strengthen neighborhoods.
RT RVA’s Executive Director, Malcolm Jones, is currently participating in VHA’s Housing Leadership Institute (HLI), gaining tools and insights that support both personal leadership development and organizational impact. In addition, the organization recently welcomed a VHA AmeriCorps VISTA member, who is working on projects to enhance community engagement and build long-term sustainability.
VHA membership has been a vital resource for RT RVA, offering access to timely policy updates, statewide strategy alignment, and peer learning that amplifies their local efforts.
