VHA is pleased to introduce Caroline Sabel, the Community Development VISTA serving at Housing Alexandria in Alexandria, VA.
About Caroline:
Caroline Sabel, originally from Basking Ridge, NJ, graduated with a Master’s in Public Policy from American University in 2025. This follows her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Ithaca College in 2023. She served as a Strategic Communications Intern at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and a Policy and Development Intern at A Wider Circle in Silver Spring, MD. In addition, Caroline worked as a Policy Intern in Government Relations at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP, and a Congressional Reform Intern at the Sunwater Institute. Her educational and professional experience have honed her skills in research, analysis, and program development, and supported her passion for affordable housing, education, social services, and anti-poverty measures. In the future, Caroline wants to continue working in the non-profit sector to provide support services to low-income communities, and wants to advocate for housing and social welfare reform.
Current Project:
As the Community Development VISTA, Caroline’s primary function is to support fundraising efforts through grant applications. She researches funding opportunities and drafts proposals that capture Housing Alexandria’s mission to create quality affordable housing and community-focused spaces to empower residents and benefit Alexandria’s neighborhoods. Caroline is also working to streamline the grant application process to increase grant fundraising and expand the organization’s strong relationship with sponsors. Recently, Caroline assisted in the planning of Housing Alexandria’s annual Fall Festival fundraising event. This event strengthens the nonprofit’s community presence and partner relationships, both of which are essential to expanding their impact. Her support with fundraising events helps to grow Housing Alexandria’s partnership with other community leaders, and highlights the positive impact the organization has on its community.
